“When you sang after you took that last shot,” Red said, hiccupping, “I thought they were going to lose their minds.” She burst into giggles from where I was holding her up, my other arm wrapped around Monty. Silver was about the only one who could stand on his own two feet, but barely. Between the popularity and the singing and the alcohol, they were all smashed. Still, I didn’t trust myself with my hands on him at all. I was sober, but he also seemed to turn my brain to mush.

Mack kicked open the front door, supporting Liam and catching Silver on the occasion he’d stumble. He looked as thrilled as I did, which wasn’t much. I mean, it was funny, watching them be intoxicated. But as a security risk, it was far less entertaining. If they were drunk, they would be a lot more difficult to control and keep track of.

“What the—” I ran smack-dab into Mack’s back, and lost my grip on Monty. He fell to the floor and burst into giggles. “Mack, what happened?” Alarm thrummed through me as I pushed forward, carefully setting down Red before catching sight of whatever had bothered Mack so much. When I did, chills ran down my spine, pure adrenaline spiking throughout my body.

Painted across the walls of the living room, in all caps, was SILENCE OR DEATH, SILVER.

“Oh, fuck,” I said on an exhale. Mack had eased Liam and Silver onto the couch before immediately grabbing his tablet and tapping on it. Someone had obviously been in the house, but how? Weren’t our security systems supposed to notify us when that happened?

No one was laughing anymore, and I couldn’t blame them. Instead, the band was now sort of huddling in a pile on the couch, the lightness that had been there moments ago buried under fear and uncertainty. I strode over to Mack, although I kept all the band members within easy sight range. “What the hell happened?” I whispered, low enough they couldn’t hear.

“Someone disabled the security system completely,” Mack said with a grimace. He was tapping furiously on the tablet, a deeper furrow between his brows than I’d ever seen before. Whatever had happened, he was pissed. “No one’s ever been able to get through my security before. What the fuck’s going on, Bram?”

“I don’t know,” I said darkly. I had a feeling it concerned Cartwright, but I didn’t know enough details to gather much more than that. At some point, I was going to have to talk to Silver about exactly what happened with Cartwright and get all the information that wasn’t in the report, but I knew now wasn’t the time. I exhaled slowly, centering myself. Silver would be okay. I would make sure of it.

There were no other options.
